Complete Surround Sets
A fireplace surround is the most characterful stone element in a residential interior. We fabricate complete sets — legs, frieze, mantel shelf, inner slips, and hearth — in matching stone with consistent finish and profile. Each component is numbered and the set arrives ready for sequential installation.
Our profile library covers contemporary profiles (square-edge leg, flat frieze, bevelled mantel) through to classical Georgian and Victorian-inspired designs (reeded legs, dentil frieze, carved central cartouche). Fully custom designs from client drawings are our primary work — standard profiles are the starting point, not the limit.

Common Questions
Which stone is best for a fireplace surround?
For the decorative surround (away from direct flame): marble and limestone are both suitable and produce excellent visual results. For the hearth and fireback (close to heat): granite or soapstone are the correct specification — they handle thermal cycling without cracking. We typically supply marble surrounds with a granite hearth as a combined set.
Can you reproduce a historical or period fireplace design?
Yes. Our CNC carving and hand carving workshop can reproduce classical period profiles from drawings or photographs. For heritage restoration projects, we request detailed reference photography and any available historical drawings. A prototype leg or frieze section is produced for approval before full production.
What are the standard components in a fireplace surround set?
A complete set includes: two legs (pilasters or corbels), a frieze/mantel shelf, a keystone or central decorative element, inner slip panels, a hearth slab, and optionally a fireback panel. We quote as a complete set or for individual components.
What is the typical lead time for a custom fireplace surround?
For a standard contemporary profile: 18–25 working days. For carved classical designs: 35–55 working days depending on carving complexity. A prototype element is produced in the first 10–14 days and submitted for approval before the full set proceeds.
